Haus der Berge

Haus der Berge stands as a clear example of the path Sexten has taken as a tourism destination. In a multi-story solid wood structure with a striking form, a place was created that conveys clarity and calm. This is exactly where the wayfinding system we developed for the building connects.

Architecture Branding Communication Design

Between the monolithic architecture, vertical circulation, and the distinct materiality of the timber construction, a subtle challenge emerged. The wayfinding system had to provide orientation while preserving the quiet atmosphere of the building. The difficulty did not lie in the amount of information, but in how it becomes visible within the space.

Our aim was to create signage that does not rely on bold gestures, but on precision and a close relationship to the architecture. Particularly distinctive are the three-dimensional curved arrows, inspired by the signage of alpine clubs. For Haus der Berge, they were further developed so that they not only guide but also carry the alpine narrative of the place.

The wayfinding system integrates into the material and geometry of the building, and that is precisely what makes it effective. Labeling, navigation, and typographic choices work with the architecture rather than against it. The use of Helvetica, originally Neue Haas Grotesk, is more than a formal decision. It also serves as an homage to the era of alpine tourism development and to the connection with Zermatt, with which Sexten shares both a historical and cultural relationship.
